Fight Against Coronavirus.

Coronavirus is the biggest crysis, the world is going through after world war ii. It originated in China. The pandemic caused thousands of deaths across the globe. And there are thousands struggling for their life. Among the worst affected countries are Italy, Spain, UK, Germany, France and United States. It is a severe blow to global economy and resulted in famine in various parts of the world.

Although USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy and Spain are among the worst affected, these countries will recover in a month or two. But for India it is a bigger challenge than ever.

Some of the media's reported that the crysis in US is Trump created crysis. But in India, there is a bigger crysis in the making.

A medical student hailing from Alleppey, Kerala was lucky enough to get the last train from Wuhan to Kunming following lockdown in China. He reached Kochi, Kerala on 24 of January 2020. He was tested positive and became the first Indian to be cured of Covid19. And India confirmed it's first Coronavirus case on 30th January 2020. This means Indian government was aware of the virus and lockdown, the first aid used by China.

The Union Government of India did every possible mistakes in handling this crysis and is continuing. In Italy the lockdown came into force on 10th of March 2020 and Germany had 1100 active cases on 10th of March 2020. In USA, the issue was big enough for Trump to worry. Similarly Spain had 1622 confirmed active cases by 10th of March 2020. Australia and USA enforced lockdown by 18th of March 2020.

In India business was as usual till 21st of March 2020(Saturday). On 21st of March 2020, the Union Government advised people to stay at home for a day on weekend and to ring bells along with clap to cheer the emergency workers and medical staff. And on the following day ( 23-03-2020-Monday), the Union Government enforced countrywide lockdown, all of a sudden. And stoppen all services including bus and trains. The Union Govement's biggest mistake ever.

The confirmed active cases of Covid19 on 24th of March 2020 was less than 200 in entire India. In India there are thousands of migrant workers who come from West, north and central India to down south. They stay in makeshift tents and work on daily wage.

Countrywide lockdown left the migrant workers high and dry. Later it became the responsibility of respective State governments and police to provide basic necessities for them, which included food and accommodation. Thousands of them ended up in crowded cities like Delhi without food, shelter or money. The government also did not make an attempt to move them to a place away from crowded cities, if not sending them to their hometown. Thereby, lockdown created a horrendous scenario which led to people like Tablighi jamaati's to hide in the mosque and to live with the virus. Later some of them went absconding, adding more burden for police.

Instead the Union Government should have informed the country at least one week before the lockdown. And it was fine if that dicision was taken on 23nd of March 2020. The spread of virus would not have crossed even one thousand, if trains were allowed to run for a week. And that could have helped migrant labourers and those stranded here there to reach their home safely. And in that one week window, government could have ordered all employeers to clear the salaries of all employees. Government also should have advised all households to stock groceries for the next twentyfive days . A complete lockdown followed by that for twenty-five days with police and army deployed in every street could have helped India to end covid19. If not, it was an effective measure to contain the spread. But lack of planning, has resulted in economical losses and the lengthy lockdown turned out to be a futile effort.

Then on 6th of April 2020, the Government instructed everyone to light lamps, candles and flashlights on mobile phone at 9 Pm for 9 minutes. Even that made hundreds gather in Mumbai streets to celebrate this light party. Later Prime minister Modi appreciated entire India in his 64th edition of Maan Ki Bath (Radio show) saying; India's fight against covid19 is people driven.

The virus infection is present in almost everywhere in India, despite fourtyone days of lockdown. Refer to the map below. The data was generated on 01-05-2020.

Indian economy suffered like never before, but even a thought about reopening the economy is more than suicidal.

Running trains or bus service to let migrant workers and those stranded reach their home can increase the spread of virus. In India the density of population is relatively higher in several crowded cities and reopening economy at a stage when the virus infection is present everywhere could lead to sudden increase in spread of virus. On the other hand, people in villages are not educated enough to follow guidelines and lack health facilities. No government in India ever made a serious attempt to improve public healthcare and education, instead choose to say; why everything for free. In cities garbage collector are out there without any safety gears, even during pandemic.

One could see many using a surgical mask for several days while going out, without being aware of the fact that it is good for only six hours. And even those who purchase re-usable cloth masks are using it for days without washing.

Re-usable(cloth) masks are sold at a price of fifty rupees each and the government is giving rupees five hunderd for each individual for a month for being out of job. Even that is not being given to all those for whom it matters. So it is obvious that they either will not use it or will just have one mask, making them use it for several days, even without washing it. Government should at least consider advising people to wrap a hanky around there face, covering their nose and mouth, which Indians are used to. And to clean it after every use.

Thousands of Expats returning to India from different parts of the world will spike the virus infection. Hence reopening economy will result in virus spread change from the present arthamtic proportion to geometric proportion.

The only hope for India is the invention of vaccine for covid19. It is very likely to have vaccine, considering that every nation is researching tirelessly to invent a cure. Or the covid19 should perish naturally due to some change in climate or other factors like what happened with N1H1(bird flu). We can keep our fingers crossed hoping against the hope.
